OUR COWS
Since the early 1980s we have bred a very fertile herd with material traits that have been tested for close to 40 years. Additional to being maternal and fertile, our females must be structurally correct. Feet, legs, temperament & the right cosmetics plus frame so they are big enough at joining are vital. They must calve at 2 years old & the big test is to go into calf for the second time under 3 years old. Our females are the backbone of our operation so in many ways they are tested more the bulls.
DAMS THAT SHAPE OUR HERD
Its straight forward, if cattle are bred wrong they wont achieve clients expectation, so we test our our breed principals under commercial conditions, we aren’t into show ribbons but hard commercial facts, for instant we calve our heifers down at 2 years old & grass feed our sale bulls, our cows must have a calf each year, we use EBVs, raw dater, & DNA to determine the breeding potential of our cattle herd, we sometimes don’t have the prettiest animals but the work.
